Library

The library of the Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde (IOW) is a specialised library on marine science. It was founded in 1960 as the official library of the Institute of Oceanography in Warnemünde. The collection covers the entire spectrum of marine science literature (physical oceanography, marine biology, marine geology, marine chemistry) and the necessary general reference works.

Monographs, journals, reports, theses and offprints fill almost 1,000 metres of shelving.

All items are listed in the online catalogue. Electronic documents can be searched via the library’s website.

The specialist library sees itself as a service facility providing literature and information to members of the IOW and the interested public.

Open Access

The library advises IOW authors on the options available for publishing academic works as open access.

The IOW is a participating institution in the DEAL consortium.

Cooperation

The library collaborates with other oceanographic libraries and is a member of AMB (German Association of Marine Science Libraries and Information Centers), EURASLIC (European Association of Aquatic Sciences Libraries and Information Centres) and IAMSLIC (International Association of Aquatic and Marine Science Libraries and Information Centers).
